The Story
In my third novel I take the point of view of my maternal grandfather who as a young adult left France to build a new life in Singapore. I tell his story though my narrative voice to stimulate emotions that will touch the reader.
Highlights of the novel
I go in search of my roots. The story begins as an investigation into the footsteps of my grandfather Pierre who once lived in Singapore. I discover unspoken stories in my family. I recount the dramas, events and the women in Pierre’s life, at the opposite end of the globe in late 19th and early 20th century and then back in France.
The themes
I build on the quest to obtain the love and recognition of parents. As the story evolves, I recount professional rivalry between men especially between brother and cousin.
On the women side, mother-daughter relationships, the transmission of values, secrets, build the stories of life in the late 19th and 20th centuries where characters are searching for happiness in spite of sometimes disturbing events.
